Building Permits: The City of Brookland requires all contractors and private citizens going to build, add on, or install a portable type building to get a permit. To get a permit to place a portable building you will need to bring a drawing that shows your current property boundary and where the portable building will be placed. Placement of portable building will have to meet all set backs according to Planning Commission guide lines. All other new construction and additions shall be presented to the Brookland PlanningCommission for approval. Cost of permit will be determined upon approval of plans. ================================================================================================
June 2010 will turn out to be one of the warmest June's we have had in recent years. We have had several days with temperatures in the 90's. Heat index has been around 104. This is a dangerous level when working outside. Take all precautions to protect yourself and loved ones. If you have to be out in the heat drink plenty of liquids. Water is the best, but not always chosen. Drinks like Gatorade are good for you also. Drinks with caffeine and alchoholic beverages can reduce your body's ability to sweat. This is your body's way of keeping cool. If you have to work outside drink plenty of liquids and take cool down breaks as needed. Wear light clothing. This not only helps with the heat but also protects you from the UV rays of the sun. If you do not wear clothing, choose a sun-screen that will protect you while out in the sun. Swimming pools are being put up in several locations in town. Please remember safety around the pool. If your pool has fifteen inches of water or more, it must be secured with a fence on all four (4) sides to prevent a child from entering. A copy of this ordinance and required fence regulations can be obtained at Brookland City Hall.
